Choosing where to incorporate, explained.
Should I incorporate federally or in my home province?
Federal incorporation protects your business name across all of Canada, which matters if you operate or plan to expand into multiple provinces. Provincial incorporation is often faster and cheaper if you operate mainly from a single province.
Can I incorporate in a province where I don’t live?
Yes, most provinces allow you to incorporate there even without residing in that province, though a few — like Prince Edward Island — have residency requirements for at least one director. We’ll flag this if it applies to you.
Why do government fees differ so much between provinces?
Each province and territory sets its own incorporation fees independently, and they can range from roughly $200 to over $350 depending on the jurisdiction and any name search requirements.
Do I need a corporation in every province I sell into?
Does Quebec incorporation require French-language documents?
Yes, Quebec’s Registraire des entreprises requires certain filings in French. We handle these requirements as part of your Quebec incorporation.
How long does incorporation take in each province?
Most provinces approve standard incorporations within 1-3 business days once your name search clears. A few, including Nova Scotia and Quebec, can take slightly longer depending on volume and document requirements.
